Research and Data Collection
The project centered around three user personas: Logan, a college student learning to cook with limited tools; Marcus, a stay-at-home dad managing meals for his family; and Ella, a busy vegetarian professional seeking nutritious meals with limited time.
Key Insights
Users needed a recipe platform that could adapt to different lifestyles. Beginners needed approachable guidance, parents needed ingredient organization, and busy professionals needed fast, dietary-friendly meal inspiration.
Design Process
The design focused on four core functions: recipe search and filtering, recipe submission and tagging, social media recipe integration, and personal recipe collections. Low-fidelity wireframes explored how users would move between discovery, saving, customization, and organization.
Key Design Decisions
The swipe-based recipe discovery feature made browsing feel faster and more engaging. Dynamic portion customization allowed users to adjust servings and prep time, while ingredient-first exploration helped users reduce food waste by finding recipes based on what they already had. Minimal onboarding helped users get value quickly without creating barriers.
The warm, earthy color palette was inspired by natural ingredients like terracotta, olive green, fig, and cream. Typography paired Albert Sans for clarity with Alata for a friendly, approachable tone.
